Dr. Fauci Now Promoting Double-Masking to Fight COVID Spread

It seems like the advice is evolving in the wrong direction.

As the coronavirus crisis continues to ravage parts of the United States, the Biden administration is taking a vastly different approach to dealing with COVID-19 than his predecessor.

Biden has already issued a mask mandate that covers those traveling in public, and he’s brought Dr. Anthony Fauci back into the fold as well.  The epidemiologist had previously had a falling out with the Trump administration and remained largely sidelined over the course of the last few weeks.

Fauci’s return to the scene brought with it a wild new preventative suggestion:  Double-masking.

“So, if you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on, it just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective,” Fauci told “NBC News’ TODAY” on Monday. “That’s the reason why you see people either double masking or doing a version of an N95.”

Double masking was in the spotlight last week during President Joe Biden’s inauguration, where several high-profile officials and celebrities were photographed wearing two masks.

Pete Buttigieg, Biden’s nominee to lead the Department of Transportation, tweeted a photo of himself wearing a surgical mask underneath a cloth black mask. Amanda Gorman, the 22-year-old inaugural poet, also wore a surgical mask underneath a fashionably studded, red cloth one.

The requiring of masks has been a hot button issue in the United States, with many Americans insisting that the government has no place in regulating what risks we take in the case of coronavirus.

Now getting people to wear two masks could take some doing.
